1984

Commissioning of the plant - production of HKD banknotes

for the two note-issuing banks at the time, namely HSBC and SCBHK, together with banknotes of other jurisdictions

1994

Production of BOCHK banknotes, following the authorization of the bank

as the third note-issuing bank

1996

The existing factory, machinery and equipment were purchased through the Exchange Fund

which is managed by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for the Government, and operated under the name of Hong Kong Note Printing Limited

1997

Launch of HKD banknotes with a print date of 1 July 1997 by the three note-issuing banks

to mark the return of Hong Kong’s sovereignty to China
